Carol Kaplan is a Washington, D.C.-based media relations expert and Emmy-winning journalist with significant experience securing top-tier media coverage across network broadcast, cable, print, and online outlets.
A highly experienced on-the-record spokesperson, Carol navigated multiple issue land mines throughout the U.S. financial crisis (2008–2010) while managing media relations for the American Bankers Association, the nation’s largest and most powerful banking trade association. She’s known for building and maintaining solid working relationships with journalists, and for coaching C-level executives ahead of live interviews on national broadcasts and in print.
While at the American Bankers Association, Carol built a network of over 600 local, national, and international financial and business journalists, personally handling an average of over 500 incoming media requests per year. She built the organization’s first social media platforms and established its first in-house video production capability, training staff to shoot and edit for internal and external audiences.
Carol has also advised several government agencies — including the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Department of Defense, and the U.S. Department of the Treasury — on communication and media relations strategy, including the rollout of national public awareness campaigns.
Prior to her career in public relations, Carol was a television news anchorwoman and reporter at stations across the U.S. Her live field reports have appeared on CNN, CNBC, and MSNBC, and have earned an Emmy, numerous Emmy nominations, and several other awards, including from the Associated Press.
